Wasn't Lag B'Omer last week?
Registriation for the 2012-13 school year begins June 4.
This past Sunday we talked about Hanukkah. We explained why we eat latkes and doughnuts and what the 2 miracles of Hanukkah were (the oil lasting 8 days, and the Maccabees winning the battle). We discussed an overview of the entire Hanukkah story. We also talked about the deeper meaning of Hanukkah.
How Hanukkah "the festival of lights" we look at the world through the light of Hanukkah.
The light of Hanukkah is the light of miracles. It is looking at the world as if everything is new and miraculous.
Try going through your day and looking at it through the light of Hanukkah and you will feel more appreciated and amazed by our world.
We also did an art project this Sunday. We created Latke plates.
The plates are glass and have glass paint underneath them.
Before use, the plates need to be baked in an oven:
Here are instructions
Once paint has completely dried (wait 24 hours), bake at 250 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
Once you use your plate, please handwash.
This plate is NOT dishwasher or microwave safe.
I'm leaving today (Thursday) for vacation. I won't be back till January 15th at night.
Therefore, I will be missing the classes on January 8th and 15th.
The substitute will be Scott Rosen. He is a very good educator and I met with him this past week to explain to him what the kids will be doing
when I'm gone.
Important: On January 15th the kids will need to bring a camera (digital, a simple point and shoot will work or like a camera on a itouch). If you don't have a camera like those just listed please email me!!! And I'll take care of it with Anita.
I can be reached by email when I'm gone, my phone won't work because I will be out of the country.
Have a Happy Hanukkah,
Daniel Iken
