As some of you know, Rabbi Fasman is battling Cancer. His sermon for Rosh Hashannah delt with his life with cancer. Alice Fasman delivered the sermon, because one of the things of living with cancer is that Rabbi Fasman cannot be in crouds, like a full sancuatary. It was a moving sermon.
One of the treatments for cancer is chemotharapy. For those who don't know, chemotharapy drugs almost kill the patent while killing the cancer. They are, by them selves toxic. Chemotharapy patients frequently need transfusions of either whole blood or blood platles when they have a chemotherapy treatment.
Blood and blood products, like platelets cannot be manufactured in a lab. They come from donors, volunteer donors. Without the needed platelets on hand, a patient cannot have the chemotherapy. That is donors. a single cancer patient needs platelets from two or three donors each time they recieve chemotherapy.
Many people have asked the rabbi, "How can I help?" He answered from the pulpit, "You can donate blood or platelets."
Pheresis is the process of donating only platelets. It takes about 90 minutes. Whole blood takes an hour. The screening is simple and strictly confidental. The links below have all of the information on donating. Take some time. Give a gift no checkbook can match.
