Wasn't Lag B'Omer last week?
Registriation for the 2012-13 school year begins June 4.
The meeting began with 13 people in attendance, Ruth Battle, chaired the meeting.
There was a review of the 12-19 meeting and an explanation of the cancellation of the January meeting due to weather.
There was a review of school communication. The email issue was explained and it was noted that the issue had been resolved. The website received rave reviews.
There was an update on the merger talks and it was noted that the merger discussions have ended and may or may not be resumed in about a year.
The calendar for the Parents' Committee meetings was discussed. It was resolved that the Parents' Committee will meet the first Sunday of each month school is in session.
There was discussion of chairs for the three remaining Parents' Committee project areas: Education Liaison; Teacher Support/Fund Raising; and Schools Out Activities. Much of the discussion centered on what each of these sub-comittees would do.
There was discussion of separating the Teacher Support/Fund Raising duties. The Teacher Support is primarily a staff wish list. The webmaster will create a wish list. Staff members can give their "wants" to Anita to forward to the wish list. The wish list was published on 2/9.
Fund Raising needs a chair as well as one or two people to work on each fund raising event. There are now two people working on the Passover Chocolate Fundraiser and a Jewish book fundraiser planned for fall 2011. It was decided that we would build the infrastructure this year for future fund raising events.
There was discussion about more Shabbat focused events in the future. There was discussion about the SZ Tot Shabbat, SZ Family Shabbat and the BSKI Jr. Congregation. Tot Shabbat is geared more to preschoolers. and the Family Shabbat seemed to have stopped. There are already several SSRS Shabbat programs on the calendar. These events will be held at both congregations on a rotating basis. The goal is to have an SSRS Shabbat event each month. In the future, there would be programs each Shabbat with age appropriate d'var torah's for each weeks portion.
The Uplan was weel recieved and is planned to continue.
It was noted that 77% of our students never attend Shabbat services. There is a check list across from the office and very few children mark down going to services.
There was discussion about room parents. What the duties of a room parent was discussed.
A parent suggested having the meeting end at noon instead of starting at 10:15 was discussed. It was noted that this meeting had extended past its scheduled ending time and that would not be possible with a noon end time. It was resolved that meetings would be from 10:15 to 11:00am, following Havdallah. Several parents did not know they were invited to join their children for Havdallah prior to the meetings.
There was a brief discussion about a year end activity on Lag b'Omer at BSKI. This event would be different from the SZ Lag b'Omer Bonfire.
Meeting Adjourned at 11:40.
